The Senufo are predominantly in the Ivory Coast, and are a agricul-tural people, cultivating millet, yams, peanut, and rice. Daily life for the Senufo people revolves around the religious rituals that enable them to placate deities they respect and fear through means of divination practices and wearing of specially crafted brass jewelry.

Senufo masks combine features of animals and humans in a single design.  Most families in the early twentieth that owned kulié masks used them in public dances during agricultural celebrations, and funerary ceremonies. Poro (the men of the Senufo tribe) also maintained similar face masks to honor deceased members in performances restricted to men.
